Founded in 2005 by Yves Bottin Putnikovic, Itekpharma, a company specializing in the creation of web portals for pharmacies and pharmaceutical laboratories, really took off in July 2013 with the promulgation of a decree authorizing the online sale of medicines. We had laid the foundations for our system, and were just waiting for the green light to step on the gas pedal," confides Michel Kervella, Marketing and NTIC Director at the SME based in Sophia-Antipolis (06).
From 25 online pharmacies at the end of 2010, we grew to 350 by the end of 2013, and should reach 500 by the end of 2014. All this for sales that have risen from €172,000 to over €1 million in four years.
In 2012, the start-up set up a decentralized sales department in Trégueux, Côtes-d'Armor. Michel Kervella has been entrusted with the task of expanding the network of online pharmacists. "It's a great challenge, because the field of possibilities is immense. Attitudes are changing, both among the general public and healthcare professionals. It's up to us to prove to them that our expertise in setting up web portals, whether showcases or e-commerce sites, will enable them to raise their profile and do business.
From 2,500 euros for a basic portal to 25,000 euros for an ultra-secure e-commerce site, Itekpharma is clearly positioned as a partner for pharmacies. "They are looking for new sources of growth. The web is one solution. We advise them in their choice, even going as far as staff training, because we mustn't forget that the online sale of non-prescription medicines - the only ones authorized for the moment - is subject to drastic controls by the regional health agency".
On the prescription side, Itekpharma has developed online booking tools, enabling customers to scan their prescription, but still bring it into the pharmacy. However, this ensures that products are available when needed.
The SME currently has sales offices throughout France, with the exception of the Centre region.
