A Conseil d'Etat was held on January 13, clarifying the situation of the COVID crisis in France. The Prime Minister announced that the festive season had not caused an "epidemic outbreak".
CURFEW & RESTRICTIONS

The 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew will apply throughout France from Saturday, January 16, 2021.

It has been announced that bars, restaurants and cultural venues will not reopen on January 20.

As of this Monday, January 18, 2021, conditions for entry into France have been tightened. Only people from outside the European Union with a negative test are authorized to enter the country.

New British and South African COVID-19 variants arrive in France

The COVID-19 vaccine campaign began on December 27.

As of Monday, January 18, vaccination will be extended to people at risk of developing a severe form of the disease, regardless of age.

To date, Friday January 15, more than 318,000 people have been vaccinated.

Pharmacists are still awaiting official authorization from the French authorities to take part in the vaccination effort. A large number of pharmacies have already begun equipping themselves with syringes and needles, so as to be operational very quickly.

Following last night's statement by the Prime Minister, a new stage will indeed begin on December 15. But the rules will be stricter than previously envisaged... including an 8pm curfew for the evening of December 31.

November 28: Lighter confinement (shops open)
December 15: end of containment (if less than 5,000 contaminations per day), but introduction of a curfew
January 20: new openings if sanitary conditions permit (restaurants, gyms, ski resorts)
Vaccination: in January for the most vulnerable people and a vaccination campaign for the general public "between April and June".

The vaccine race continues. After Pfizer, it's now the turn of Modernaan American laboratory, to announce very encouraging preliminary results. According to Moderna, its treatment is effective at around 95%.

The Prime Minister spoke last night to take stock of the situation, and here's what he had to say:
- Confinement to continue: the Prime Minister hopes to ease confinement before the festive season, to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the holidays. Containment could continue after December 1, although nothing has been made official.
- Non-essential businesses remain closed for at least the next 15 days
- High schools will remain open, but will have to offer "hybrid" teaching, combining distance learning and on-site courses.
- Teleworking to be further strengthened
Regarding screening and antigenic tests, the French Health Minister also reminded us that "many pharmacists [...] can give you these tests. [...] If you are asymptomatic but a contact case, the recommendations of the French National Authority for Health are that you should have a laboratory PCR test."

The symbolic milestone of 40,000 COVID deaths in France has been passed.
Nevertheless, the first tremors of the effects of containment are being felt, said the Minister of Health.
Meanwhile, the vaccine developed by Pfizer Laboratories and BioNTech is currently undergoing phase 3 testing, the last stage before a license application. According to preliminary results, it appears to be effective against 90 %.

It's back to school time for all children and teenagers up to high school age. Schools remain open during confinement, but must respect and intensify the respect of barrier gestures. In particular, children aged 6 and over must wear masks.
The government has also announced that the sale of products affected by the closure of local shops, will be banned in supermarkets from Tuesday November 03, 2020. This applies in particular to cultural products such as books.
ANTIGEN TESTS At last, pharmacies are authorized to carry out these tests. They work by taking a nasopharyngeal sample (from the nose), and offer very rapid results (10-30 minutes). In fact, unlike PCR tests previously used, they do not require laboratory analysis.
